Whats that # thingy???

So your on Twitter. You keep seeing these # thingies followed by some silly word or something. What the hell is that # thingy? Well Hashtags were first popularized during the San Diego forest fires in 2007 when Nate Ritter used the hashtag #sandiegofire to identify his updates related to the disaster. provides real-time tracking of Twitter hashtags.
